THE FIRST OLYMPIC DESTINATION

Opening in 2011, Westfield Stratford City stormed onto the scene to become the first retail destination in history to be the located next to an Olympic Games site – The London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games.

In its first year of operation, it attracted 47 million customers, boosted by the Olympic Games footfall. Although this was an extraordinary year, due to the popularity of the centre, transport connectivity and the wider regeneration of the area, Westfield Stratford City is now the most visited centre in Europe, attracting over 52 million annual visitors and growing.

The Westfield Team created a comprehensive mixed-use masterplan for Stratford with 102,000 sqm offices, over 1,200 new homes, three hotels with over 600 beds and 1000 unit student accommodation. Stratford is one of the fastest growing investment areas with new offices, hotels, residential, universities and cultural organisations, for which Westfield Stratford City has been a major catalyst. Post development Westfield sold 50% of the shopping centre into a joint venture with Canadian Pension Plan and APG.
