CITY CENTRE RETAIL & ENTERTAINMENT LED REGENERATION PROJECT
This complex city centre redevelopment and extension more than doubled the size of the original centre when it opened in October 2007. The development included the refurbishment and remixing of the existing centre introducing over 150 new retail shops.
During the redevelopment, the centre continued to trade throughout, as a result of a complex and carefully planned phasing strategy. Extensive and complex site assembly was required of 300+ interests in land and property. The team brought the first cafe court to the UK, the first modern department store and a fully integrated 12-screen cinema and dining precinct to Derby, creating a newly regenerated heart to the city centre.
From 2004 Westfield established its development, design and construction capability in the UK market to enable the company to execute large-scale and complex city centre regeneration schemes with extensive infrastructure and transport connectivity, starting with Westfield Derby and subsequently Westfield London, Stratford City and Bradford. Westfield Derby was sold to Intu in 2014.
